This week's feature on album art is all about beginnings. Blue Note 5058 (simply titled The Horace Silver Quintet) was one of Horace Silver's very first 10" releases for the company, and it would be reissued with additional tracks for his first 12" with Blue Note a few years later. The man who designed the cover, John Hermansader, was with founders Alfred Lion and Francis Wolff from the very beginning, creating the visual style for their early classics. And you guessed it, Wolff is responsible for the cover's photograph.  Doodlin, which made both the 10 inch and 12 inch releases, is included below.
